Lady Gaga "Judas" Music Video

Have I ever told you that I am a Lady Gaga fan? Oh, that often, heh? Well...

Lady Gaga's new video Judas requires mentioning because the costumes she wears in it are many, amazing, and come from various sources of inspiration. Here are my Top 5 favourites.

Number 5: The Wave Dress

In this case, it is hard to see the details, but I liked that it was long and metallic. I also always love water scenes. Hopefully one day, I will know more about it.

Number 4: The Killer Nails

I simply love burgundy and deep green together. I used to paint my nails in this fashion as a teen; maybe the fashion will finally kick in now! Plus I love all the bling on those claws (except maybe for the moss).

The shirt has a somewhat Victorian and romantic feel to it, from what we can see of it, i.e. the cuffs. And is it just me, or is that eye make up inspired by an Oudjat (slightly inverted)?

Number 3: The Doublet

Here we have a lovely embroidered doublet, straight out of The Tudors. I have a velvet doublet that I wear as a jacket; perhaps I will no longer be alone after this.

As for the hairstyle, I have read some comments comparing it to Snookie's , but my first thought was in fact Centauri males (in Babylon 5).

Number 2: Riding Look

Not only do i like red and purple together, but lets be honest: what girl does not love a Tiara? That bejeweled cold crown is gorgeous.

Really, I just thought Miss Gaga looked stunningly beautiful in this scene.

Number 1: The Egyptian Bride

This is my favourite look of all, and we only see it for a few seconds at the end of the video. The wig looks like something Egyptian, the dress is a mixture of Lolita and 80's wedding dress and the shoes seem to be 50's saddle oxford. It almost feels like I have seen this look before in a manga, but can't exactly put my finger on which one. In any case, someone had better market that wig because I want it. In fact, I think I may have found my Halloween costume.

Movie Monday: The Runaways

The 70's: a decade I haven't' talked about often. Let me correct that by presenting The Runaways (2010) on this fine Movie Monday. This movie chronicles the band The Runaways from their debut in 1975 to their breakup in 1977 following the overwhelming reaction of fans on their Japanese tour.

What does this mean for us costumers? Plenty of eye candy 70's Rocker fashion!

I love it when I know the Costume Designer did their research.

On the actor's level, it's also nice to see Dakota Fanning (Cherie Currie) all grown up and Kristen Stewart (Joan Jett) act. I know this may potentially sound mean, but I find she is demonstrating more talent in the 1:30 minute trailer for The Runaways (2010) than I have seen her show in two Twilight movies (my opinion anyways). Good for her!

Costumes for this moie were designed by Carol Beadle; this is Carol's first credit as Costume Designer, according to IMDB (and I think she did an amazing job, based on what I have seen in the movie trailer).

The Lady Gaga "Telephone" Phenomenon

Thursday, Lady GaGa's new music video, Telephone, took the world by storm. Some have said it's the biggest, most important video since Michael Jackson's Thriller. I don't know about that, but it is truly artistic, original, and one big marketing campaign for Virgin Mobile, Diet Coke, Miracle Whip and more (Ah, product placement... did I mention I have a degree in publicity? This is a dream come true for any brand). But more important than the hidden publicity was the large number of outrageous outfits worn throughout the video (and the reason I'm gaga for GaGa!).

Louxor, j'adore

Great! I have a crazy week of sewing before me, and we have all come down with the flu (that is, my Sweetheart, my Baby Daughter and I). This will be a very short post.

This is one of my Sweetheart's favorite song (if it isn't, he plays it quite often for someone who doesn't like it). It is Louxor, j'adore by French singer Philippe Katerine.

What does this have to do with costumes? Have you seen what Katerine and his dancers wear? My Sweetheart has made jokes about me making one of the dancer's costume (a lilac lycra top and a pair of light green undies, with a short white-blond wig).

And that's my effort for today. I'm going to go rest now... Nah, sick or not, I have to work on my Irish Dance Dress.

Hairdo: Scarf tying

While I was preparing for my first LARP week, oh, back in 2005, I spent a lot of time cutting and sewing garb and costumes while watching Era music videos. One that inspired me greatly was Misere Mani.

I really liked the costume worn by Irene Bustamante, who plays the role of the mother / singer (and this has nothing to do with the fact that she is, in my eyes, the most beautiful woman I've ever seen, no sir...). I often wondered how to wrap scarves the way she wears hers in said video. Then, recently, I was sent a link for some Jewish online clothing store (through a costuming list I belong to) that also features scarf wearing tutorials; I need wonder no more. Her scarf tying technique is called The Crown. The little blind girl's scarf is apparently The Classic Tie.

And for those of us who watched The Mists of Avalon (2001) and wondered how the maids could wear a braided head wrap (I sure did), this is how you do The Braid.
